Mumbai's Metro Line-1 celebrates 12 years with tech upgrades and record ridership
Mumbai Metro One Pvt. Ltd. (MMOPL) has marked 12 years of operations for its Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Line-1. The metro system, launched in 2014, continues to serve as a vital transport link across the city. On its 12th Foundation Day, the company introduced new tech upgrades to improve commuter experience.
Since its launch, Line-1 has carried over 125 crore passengers. The system recorded its highest single-day ridership at 5.79 lakh travellers. Over the years, it has completed more than 15 lakh trips while maintaining a punctuality rate of 99.99%.
The metro operator also boasts a flawless safety record, with zero fatalities reported since operations began. Line-1 now connects major residential areas, business districts, and key transit points, making it an essential part of Mumbai’s urban transport network. To enhance convenience, MMOPL launched co-branded RuPay 'On-The-Go' cards in partnership with Airtel Payments Bank. These open-loop NCMC cards enable seamless, interoperable travel across multiple transit systems in Mumbai and beyond.
The new RuPay cards aim to simplify travel for daily commuters. With a strong safety record and near-perfect punctuality, Line-1 remains a reliable transport option. The metro’s expansion and tech upgrades reflect its growing role in Mumbai’s mobility network.
