A Gazelle van was seized by authorities in Russia after its owner amassed a large number of unpaid fines. The vehicle first came to attention in late 2021, but the situation escalated over the following months. In December 2021, traffic enforcement cameras detected the van with over 100 unpaid penalties. These fines added up to more than 200,000 rubles, roughly $2,200 at the time.

By April 2022, the same driver had accumulated nearly 1 million rubles ($11,000) in additional speeding fines. The growing debt led to the van’s impoundment.

On 23 June 2022, the Federal Bailiff Service formally seized the vehicle. The total unpaid amount, including taxes and penalties, reached around 2 million rubles, or $22,000. The owner eventually settled the outstanding debt to reclaim the van. This prevented the permanent loss of the vehicle. The case highlights the consequences of repeated traffic violations and unpaid fines.
