Khabarovsk overhauls 16.5 km of ageing water and sewage systems

Khabarovsk has launched a major modernisation of its water and sewage systems. The city plans to replace around 16.5 kilometres of ageing utilities this year. The first phase targets a critical water main between Amur Boulevard and Kim Yu Chen Street. The upgrades include replacing 380 linear metres of worn-out piping on Pushkin Street. This section has suffered repeated emergencies, prompting the planned reconstruction. An analysis showed that full replacement was the only effective solution.

Work on Pushkin Street will use horizontal directional drilling to limit disruption. The new pipes are designed to last 40 to 50 years. Crews aim to finish this phase by 15 July.

Overall, the project covers 11.5 kilometres of water supply networks and over 5 kilometres of wastewater systems. The total cost for the Pushkin Street repairs alone exceeds 16.5 million rubles. The overhaul seeks to guarantee a steady supply of clean drinking water for residents. It also aims to fix hidden defects in the network before winter. The city expects the upgrades to improve reliability and reduce future emergencies.
