Claude Tag transforms Slack into a smarter AI-powered workspace
Anthropic has launched Claude Tag, a new product that places Claude directly into Slack as a permanent team member. The tool replaces the company’s earlier Claude in Slack app and is now available in beta for Enterprise and Team plan users. The original Claude in Slack app arrived in October 2025. It let users message @Claude directly or tag it in threads for quick assistance. In December, Anthropic expanded this by adding Claude Code, which allowed developers to involve Claude in coding discussions within Slack.
Claude Tag takes this further by giving Claude its own identity in the workspace. It operates with dedicated accounts for every connected tool, building institutional knowledge over time. Unlike the previous version, it works asynchronously and can act without prompts.
Each Slack channel now has its own Claude instance, shared by all members. This lets teams see ongoing work and pick up tasks seamlessly. The move also strengthens Claude’s position in Slack, deepening reliance on the AI for distribution and data handling.
Other companies have taken similar steps. Cognition’s Devin was designed with Slack integration from the start, while Block uses Slack for agent orchestration. GitHub has brought Copilot into Microsoft Teams, and OpenAI’s Codex offers native Slack support for task delegation. Claude Tag is currently in beta for select customers. It replaces the existing Claude in Slack app and offers a more persistent, collaborative presence. The update aims to make Claude a more embedded and proactive part of team workflows.
