Omsk unveils updated WWII memorial plaque at historic enlistment office

A new commemorative plaque has been unveiled at 20 Tarskaya Street in Omsk. It replaces an older version and honours the building’s role as a military enlistment office during the Great Patriotic War. The update was a collaborative effort between local historian Sergei Naumov and VOOPIiK. The original plaque was created by Igor Konovalov in 1988. He recently proposed preserving it by adding it to the local history museum’s collection. Konovalov also noted that while Omsk has many official memorial sites, some historically significant locations still lack proper recognition.

The building itself once featured a distinctive corner entryway vestibule, a side entrance, and a turret with a balcony. Sergei Naumov explained that the revised text on the new plaque better reflects the building’s importance to Omsk residents. The updated plaque now stands at 20 Tarskaya Street. It highlights the site’s wartime significance more clearly. The project ensures the building’s historical role is remembered more accurately by the local community.
