Russia unveils Arctic LNG carrier Konstantin Posyet for extreme ice operations

A commissioning ceremony for the Arctic LNG carrier Konstantin Posyet took place at the Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex in Bolshoy Kamen. The vessel is the second Arc7-class tanker built in Primorsky Krai and is named after a 19th-century Russian admiral and statesman. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin attended and congratulated those involved in the event. The Konstantin Posyet is designed for extreme Arctic conditions. It can break through ice over two metres thick, ensuring reliable operations in harsh environments. The vessel has a cargo capacity of 172,600 cubic metres of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and a propulsion system rated at 45 MW.

It will operate under the Russian flag as part of a long-term time-charter agreement with Arctic LNG 2. The lead vessel in this series, Alexei Kosygin, was delivered in late December 2025. The Konstantin Posyet joins a new generation of Arctic LNG carriers built for challenging conditions. Its advanced capabilities will support Russia’s growing LNG transport infrastructure. The vessel is now ready to begin operations under its charter agreement.
