Russian ex-official Ilya Shtokman held six more months in bribery scandal
A court in Nizhny Novgorod has extended the pretrial detention of Ilya Shtokman by six months. He is the former first deputy head of the city administration and stands accused of bribery. His brother is also implicated in the case. The criminal case began after Karim Ibragimov, a city council deputy, transferred 55 million rubles to a concrete plant owned by the Shtokman brothers. The money was disguised as payment for gravel supplies. Investigators allege that Ilya Shtokman secured a municipal contract for Ibragimov’s company in exchange for the bribe.
The case files were moved from Moscow to the Nizhny Novgorod District Court on 17 June. Authorities have since seized assets belonging to the suspects, with a total value of 328 million rubles. Ilya Shtokman and his brother are accused of receiving the bribe and acting as intermediaries in its transfer. The court’s decision extends Shtokman’s detention as the investigation continues. The seized assets remain under control of the authorities. The case is now proceeding in Nizhny Novgorod District Court.
