Meta's 2026 RFP Aims to Slash Emissions in Hard-to-Abate Sectors

Meta has launched its 2026 request for proposals (RFP) to tackle emissions across its value chain. The move is part of its plan to reach net zero by 2030. It targets industries with complex climate challenges and few immediate alternatives for cutting emissions. The RFP focuses on sectors with high emissions and limited short-term solutions. These include air transport, aluminium, cement, chemicals, copper, fluorinated gases, maritime transport, semiconductors, steel, and trucking. Meta aims to identify projects and partnerships that can reduce Scope 3 emissions, which are often the hardest to address.

Firms must have an active non-disclosure agreement using Meta’s mutual NDA template to access the RFP. The deadline to sign this agreement is July 17, 2026. Responses to the RFP must be submitted by September 4, 2026.

Meta will review proposals from September to November 2026. It expects to contact selected firms for further exploration in November 2026. The process reflects a shift from setting climate targets to active commercial engagement, using procurement to drive demand for lower-carbon materials and processes. The RFP supports Meta’s goal of net zero emissions by 2030. It highlights the urgency of scaling solutions beyond the company’s direct control. The selected sectors represent a significant portion of its value chain emissions.
