Adverse Weather Conditions Declared in Primorye

Vladivostok chokes under thick smog as officials urge precautions

Thick smog covered Vladivostok on 17 March, reducing visibility and making breathing difficult. The poor weather has trapped pollutants near ground level, causing temporary harm to residents. Similar incidents have occurred several times in the region this spring. The Primorsky Krai Health Ministry has issued advice to the public. People are urged to limit time outdoors, keep windows closed, and wear protective masks during severe smog. Fine particles in the air can reach deep into the lungs, leading to inflammation and cardiovascular issues.

Businesses contributing to air pollution have switched to a special operating mode under the federal Clean Air project. This affects facilities burning coal or releasing combustion byproducts and coal dust. Industrial processes and equipment will be restricted or paused when meteorological conditions worsen.

Unfavourable weather is forecast across most of Primorsky Krai from midnight to 7:00 p.m. on 27 June. Officials state the situation will improve once the weather changes. The measures aim to lower harmful emissions during adverse conditions. Residents are advised to follow health guidelines to reduce exposure. Air quality is expected to return to normal when the weather stabilises.
