Krasnodar youth learn civic rights and election responsibilities at summer camp
A recent educational event in Krasnodar Region focused on the rights and responsibilities of Russian citizens. It was part of the Holidays with Znanie project, which offers summer lectures in school camps on various topics. The session was led by Sergei Yakovlev, a member of the Krasnodar Regional Election Commission and a lecturer with Znanie. Yakovlev began by explaining the history of elections and the electoral system. He described how legal capacities grow with age, highlighting key milestones at 10, 14, and 16 years old. Receiving a passport at 14, he noted, marks an important step toward adulthood, bringing new rights and obligations.
The discussion then shifted to adolescent rights and accountability for their actions. Yakovlev encouraged students to engage in public life through various organisations and initiatives. He also urged them to take part in competitions and initiatives run by the regional election commission.
Elections were emphasised as a vital civic act. Yakovlev stressed that voting shapes the future of cities, regions, and the country as a whole. The event is part of a broader series of educational activities for schoolchildren in Krasnodar Region. Organised by the Russian Society Znanie under the Youth and Children national project, these sessions aim to inform young people about their civic roles. The latest lecture underlined the importance of understanding rights, responsibilities, and participation in democratic processes.
