Berlin launches express trains to ease S-Bahn construction delays near Schöneweide

Berlin is introducing extra express trains to reduce travel disruptions during S-Bahn construction near Schöneweide. The work has forced passengers onto slower replacement buses. Odeg will run an hourly service from June 22 to July 5 to help ease the strain. Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn GmbH (Odeg) will operate an express train every hour between Schönefeld, Schöneweide, and Ostkreuz. The trip from Schöneweide to Ostkreuz takes just six minutes by train. By contrast, the replacement bus service covers the same route in about 23 minutes.

Regional trains already offer an alternative, but a 36-minute gap remains in the hourly schedule. The new express service will fill this gap and cut travel time for many commuters. Passengers currently face longer journeys and multiple transfers due to the ongoing construction. The additional express trains aim to improve the situation for travellers. They will run until July 5, providing a faster and more reliable option. This should reduce the impact of the S-Bahn disruptions during the construction period.
