Uttar Pradesh hits 2 GW residential rooftop solar milestone under Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh has joined an exclusive group of states by installing 2 gigawatts of residential rooftop solar capacity. The milestone places it alongside Gujarat and Maharashtra in the '2 GW Rooftop Solar Club'. The achievement comes under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The state’s rapid growth in residential solar energy is driven by the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Many consumers have adopted rooftop solar plants, attracted by clean and affordable energy. This shift has eased electricity bills and supported environmental conservation.

UPNEDA Director Ravinder Singh called the milestone a step toward energy self-reliance. He credited the success to combined efforts from UPNEDA’s vendors, officials, employees, banking institutions, and consumers. Officials now believe the state could soon rival the country’s top performers in residential solar installations if progress continues at the current pace. The 2 GW capacity marks a key moment in Uttar Pradesh’s push for a green energy future. It also strengthens the state’s position in India’s renewable energy landscape. The scheme and public participation have played a central role in this advancement.
