A Brampton man, Durante King-Mclean, has been sentenced to 160 months in prison for his role in a firearms smuggling plot. Canadian authorities had also charged him in connection with a major theft at Pearson International Airport in Toronto. King-Mclean conspired to smuggle 65 handguns into Canada. Among the weapons, two were fully automatic, 11 were stolen, and one had its serial number removed. He maintained contact with co-conspirators from April 2023 until his arrest.

His involvement extended beyond firearms. He was also accused of participating in the theft of $24 million in gold bars and foreign currency from an Air Canada cargo terminal on April 17, 2023. Authorities apprehended him in Pennsylvania on September 2, 2023, after finding the handguns in his rental car. The court handed down a 160-month prison sentence for the smuggling conspiracy. The case highlights the serious penalties for cross-border firearms trafficking. King-Mclean now faces legal consequences in both Canada and the United States.
