New T-shaped interchange to transform city traffic by 2028
A major new interchange is under construction at the intersection of Tikhoretskaya, Volodarskogo, and Shevchenko streets. The project aims to reduce congestion on busy routes, including the Northern Bridges. Vehicles are set to use the completed interchange by 2028. The interchange is being built in four stages under the '25/35' infrastructure programme. It will feature two overpasses: one linking Tikhoretskaya Street with Volodarskogo Street, and another providing an exit from Tikhoretskaya Street onto Shevchenko Street. This will make it the city’s first overpass with a T-shaped intersection.
Construction is progressing, with around 70% of the pile foundation for the overpass already complete. Two supports near the railway have been erected, and work continues to relocate communication networks, sewage, water supply, electrical, and gas lines. By the end of the year, crews plan to install two spans of the overpass structure. The interchange will open to traffic in 2028. Once complete, it will ease pressure on existing routes and improve travel times. The project marks a significant upgrade to the city’s road network.
