Russia cracks down on unsafe passenger transport in sweeping enforcement drive
The Russian Interior Ministry has carried out a large-scale enforcement campaign targeting passenger transport safety. The operation uncovered widespread violations, with authorities taking action against drivers and operators breaking the law. During the campaign, inspectors detected more than 22,000 traffic offences. Nearly 6,000 of these involved passenger transport irregularities. Officers also found drivers operating under the influence of alcohol or without valid licences.
Investigations revealed buses with forged licence plates in use. A total of 61 buses were impounded, and 102 licence plates were confiscated. Additionally, 63 cases of illegal modifications were identified on buses serving intercity and international routes. Several incidents led to the launch of pre-trial investigations.
The ministry highlighted the discovery of multiple serious breaches, including the use of falsified documents and unsafe vehicle alterations. The Interior Ministry has called on transport operators and all road users to follow legal requirements and safety regulations. The operation resulted in vehicles being taken off the road and further legal action in the most severe cases. Authorities continue to stress the importance of compliance to prevent risks to public safety.
