Yakutsk's Borisov-1 hit by gas and hot water outages amid aging infrastructure
Residents in Yakutsk’s Borisov-1 neighbourhood are facing widespread gas and hot water outages. Officials have traced the problem to faulty gas equipment installed in 2009. The disruption has raised concerns among locals about safety and reliability. Aleksandr Severyanov, a deputy in Yakutsk’s City Duma, met with Vladislav Sleptsov, the deputy head of the city administration, to address the issue. Sleptsov confirmed that a housing and utilities commission would start inspecting boiler rooms in Borisov-1 from Wednesday. Gas service technicians from UGRS and the Housing and Utilities Department will carry out the checks.
Anna Novokokova, a resident, warned that the outages could overburden the electrical grid and increase fire risks. She also expressed doubt about the repair timeline, expecting the problem to last until the heating season. The inspections aim to identify and fix the faulty gas equipment causing the outages. Officials have not yet provided a date for when normal service will resume. Residents continue to face disruptions to gas and hot water supplies in the meantime.
