Ohio approves 250-MW gas plant to power Meta's new data center exclusively

The Ohio Power Siting Board has greenlit the construction of a 250-megawatt natural gas plant. The facility will power a data centre in New Albany, serving only that site. Will-Power PH, LLC will lead the project’s development and operation. The plant will sit on 109 acres within the city’s Technology Manufacturing District Zone. It will not connect to the wider electric grid but will supply Sidecat, LLC, an affiliate of Meta Platforms, Inc. The design includes 116 MW of battery storage to support its output.

Will-Power will handle all aspects of the project, from design and site work to construction and daily operation. The company will also own the land, equipment, and infrastructure. To address environmental and community concerns, Will-Power OH must meet 36 strict conditions during building and operation.

Ohio already hosts 224 data centres, with more on the way. This new plant highlights the growing demand for dedicated energy solutions in the state. The approval allows construction to begin under regulated terms. Once complete, the plant will provide a self-contained energy supply for the data centre. The project reflects ongoing expansion in Ohio’s digital infrastructure sector.
