Generations of farmers drive Krasnoarmeysky District's agricultural boom
Agriculture remains the backbone of Krasnoarmeysky District’s economy. Over half of its working-age residents work in agribusiness, supporting a thriving sector with deep local roots. One of the region’s top rice producers operates in Poltavskaya stanitsa, where farming traditions span generations. The farm in Poltavskaya has grown significantly over the past five years. Its land under cultivation has increased from 4,700 hectares to more than 5,700. Alongside rice, it now produces sunflower, soybeans, peas, winter barley, wheat, and rapeseed.
To support this expansion, the farm has added over 20 pieces of machinery to its fleet. This includes two high-performance combines capable of handling multiple crops. The workforce consists of 103 employees, most of whom come from neighbouring stanitsas and are known for their skill and dedication.
Viktor Petrenko has spent decades working on the farm and currently drives a tractor. His son, Valeriy Petrenko Jr., has joined him, carrying on the family’s farming tradition. Valeriy Jr. hopes to one day pass this legacy to his own son.
Across Krasnoarmeysky District, 251 enterprises focus on agricultural production and processing. These businesses form the core of the local economy, sustaining jobs and community life. The farm’s growth reflects the strength of Krasnoarmeysky District’s agricultural sector. With expanded land, modern equipment, and a committed workforce, it continues to play a key role in the region. The Petrenko family’s multi-generational involvement highlights the enduring importance of farming in the area.
