Kazakhstan and Germany Strengthen Economic and Energy Cooperation in High-Level Talks

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Katharina Reiche. The meeting highlighted efforts to deepen ties between the two nations. Tokayev also passed on greetings to German leaders, including Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Friedrich Merz. During the discussions, both sides explored ways to boost cooperation in key areas. These include energy, industry, digitalisation, rare earth mineral extraction, and transport infrastructure.

Reiche acknowledged Kazakhstan’s progress in socioeconomic development. She noted the country’s growing role as a partner for German businesses. Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to fostering a favourable environment for German companies. Over a thousand firms with German investment already operate in Kazakhstan, including major names like Siemens, BASF, and CLAAS.

The president also underscored the importance of the strategic partnership with Germany. Since 2005, Kazakhstan has attracted more than $8 billion in foreign direct investment, primarily in non-resource sectors. The country’s new constitution further supports its development as a democratic, secular, and law-based state. The talks reinforced the strong economic links between Kazakhstan and Germany. Germany remains one of Kazakhstan’s top trade and investment partners. Both nations aim to expand collaboration across multiple industries in the coming years.
