Rebuilding after Devastating Fire - Topping Out Ceremony for New Fire Station in Treffurt

Treffurt's Fire Station Rises Anew After Devastating 2025 Blaze

A topping-out ceremony marked a key milestone for the new Treffurt Volunteer Fire Department station on Wednesday. The rebuilding follows a devastating fire in January 2025 that destroyed the vehicle bay and all emergency vehicles. The blaze dealt a severe blow to local firefighting efforts, according to Treffurt’s mayor, Michael Reinz. The fire on 13 January 2025 gutted the original station, wiping out five emergency vehicles. Among the losses were a 2021 rescue and firefighting truck (HLF 10) and a 2024 HLF 20. Since then, construction has progressed rapidly, with the roof structure now complete and the building’s shape fully visible.

District Administrator Dr. Michael Brodführer commended the dedication of everyone involved in the rebuilding effort. The project, estimated at €1.2 million, is fully funded by Sparkassenversicherung insurance. Plans for the new station include two replacement HLF 10 trucks and a new crew transport vehicle.

During the ceremony, a plaque featuring the Wartburgkreis coat of arms was presented as a gesture of solidarity. It will be permanently displayed in the new firehouse. The new fire station is set to open in December 2026. Once complete, it will restore full operational capacity to the Treffurt Volunteer Fire Department. The rebuilt facility will house modern equipment and vehicles to support future emergency response.
