Dubai Customs Unveils High-Tech Fleet for Elite K9 Inspection Unit

Dubai Customs has introduced a new fleet of high-tech vehicles for its K9 Unit. These vehicles aim to modernise customs inspections and improve the unit's field operations. The upgrade is part of a broader strategy to enhance efficiency and response times. The K9 Unit has seen steady growth in deployments over recent years. In 2023, the team conducted 341 field operations, rising to 419 in 2024, with 290 already completed in 2025. The unit comprises 28 dogs, including 20 trained in narcotics detection and eight in explosives detection.

The new vehicles come equipped with advanced features. Each has independently air-conditioned kennels, automated water dispensers, feeding bowls, and non-slip flooring. Three emergency exits ensure safety, while smart technologies like cameras, driver-attention monitoring, and thermal sensors provide real-time oversight. The vehicles also carry dedicated emergency number plates and are linked to Dubai Customs’ central operations room for live mission tracking.

Beyond the fleet, the K9 Unit operates from a purpose-built facility. It includes 54 kennels, five quarantine kennels, five specialised training kennels, and a veterinary examination room. Dubai Customs continues to invest in training facilities that simulate real-world inspection scenarios across land, sea, and air entry points. The new vehicles are expected to boost the K9 Unit’s response speed and field readiness. They represent a significant step in Dubai Customs’ efforts to modernise its inspection systems. The fleet and facilities together strengthen the unit’s operational capabilities.
