New bypass roads in south Estonia advance despite border security challenges

The Transport Administration is constructing new bypass roads in south Estonia. Work on the six-kilometre route around Saatse Boot and a shorter section near the Lutepää Triangle is progressing as planned. The changes follow last October’s closure of parts of the Saatse-Ulitina road due to security concerns. Construction is in full swing at both sites. At Saatse Boot, new road corridors have been laid out, and embankment works are underway. No fence will be built here because of a marshy area separating the road from the border.

At the Lutepää Triangle, work is more advanced. A half-kilometre bypass is being built, and a new fence will soon surround the area. The fence will stand just over two metres high to prevent unauthorised access to border infrastructure. The new fence will separate one section of the road from border facilities. It is designed to stop unauthorised individuals from approaching the border strip. The Transport Administration confirms that all construction remains on schedule.
