Invictus Aims to Cut London-to-Sydney Flights to Just Three Hours

A new aircraft called Invictus is being developed to revolutionise long-haul travel. The project aims to slash flight times dramatically, turning journeys like London to Sydney into brief trips. Backed by the European Space Agency and the UK Space Agency, it represents a fresh push for ultra-fast air travel. The Invictus project envisions a plane so fast that passengers could leave London in the morning and arrive in Sydney in time for lunch. Today, a standard flight with stopovers takes over 20 hours, while Concorde’s record stood at just over 17 hours. If successful, Invictus would complete the same route in roughly three hours—about 14 hours faster than Concorde.

Engineers still face years of testing before the aircraft can take to the skies. Current plans suggest the first flight may not happen until the 2030s. Until then, the team will work to turn the concept into a reality. Invictus could transform long-haul travel, making day-long journeys as short as a film marathon. The project shows the aviation industry’s continued pursuit of speed. For now, though, the plane remains firmly on the drawing board.
