Russian court fines Telegram, Twitch, and others over content violations

A Moscow court has fined four major social media platforms for failing to comply with Russian regulations. Telegram, Pinterest, Likeme, and Twitch were each ordered to pay 3.5 million rubles. The ruling follows repeated violations of local content laws. The Tagansky District Court found the companies liable under Part 2 of Article 13.50 of Russia’s Code of Administrative Offenses. They had ignored obligations to monitor and restrict access to banned content. Authorities had previously extended restrictions to enforce compliance and protect citizens.

Telegram had already faced partial restrictions in Russia since August 2025. The platform was penalised for disregarding legal requirements imposed on social media owners. The other three companies were similarly found in breach of the same regulations. Each of the four platforms must now pay the 3.5 million ruble fine. The court’s decision reinforces existing measures to ensure adherence to Russian social media laws. The ruling applies to all four companies equally.
