Almaty reclaims 14 hectares of unused farmland for urban development
Eight land plots totalling 14.6777 hectares in Almaty’s Turkestan-Siberia District have been returned to state ownership. The land was originally designated for commercial agriculture but remained unused for its intended purpose. A court ruling confirmed the seizure due to improper use. The plots were previously owned by Almaty ZTO LLP. Authorities found that performing isolated agronomic work without planting crops did not meet the legal requirements for commercial farming. This led to a lawsuit demanding the compulsory return of the land.
The courts sided with the claim and ordered the transfer of all eight plots back to the state. Officials had earlier issued an order to correct the violations, but compliance was not achieved. The reclaimed land is now under state control. It will be used for urban infrastructure development and to improve living conditions for Almaty residents. The decision ensures the land serves a purpose aligned with public benefit.
