Ohligs City Ring revamps transport with eco-friendly upgrades and fewer parking spots
The Ohligs City Ring project aims to improve transport in the area. It focuses on eco-friendly travel, better access to the city centre, and stronger links to the main train station. The plans also include optimising traffic flow and making infrastructure fully accessible. New no-stopping zones and road markings will reduce conflicts between parked cars and buses. This change will remove eight parking spaces on Rennpatt but add eight new ones in a repurposed area. A one-way system in Rennpatt is also under review to help buses move more smoothly.
The project will create barrier-free bus stops to encourage public transport use. However, it will remove 35 parking spaces in total, with the biggest losses on Kottendorfer Straße and Bahnstraße. The city has not shared the total number of public parking spaces available or studied the impact of this reduction. The project seeks to enhance bus connections, road safety, and accessibility. It will also reduce parking spaces, which may spark political debate. Officials will need to weigh the benefits against the loss of parking and consider alternative options.
