Vladivostok restaurant's grease dump clogs city sewers and sparks fines
A Chinese restaurant in Vladivostok has caused a serious sewer blockage after dumping cooking oil and greasy waste into the system. The incident threatened the district’s utility infrastructure and required urgent intervention. Specialists from Gorkanalizatsiya found a hazardous buildup in the sewer main serving Neibuta and Ladygina streets. The blockage came from solidified grease traced back to a restaurant at 88 Neibuta Street. The establishment had failed to install a mandatory grease trap, allowing waste to flow directly into the sewers.
Grease cools and hardens inside pipes, sticking to the walls and forming thick deposits. Over time, these clogs disrupt wastewater treatment by damaging biological filters and jamming equipment. To remove the threat, crews carried out an emergency hydrodynamic flush. The restaurant now faces fines and a corrective order to comply with regulations. The blockage has been cleared, but the incident highlights the risks of improper waste disposal. Authorities stress that grease traps are essential to prevent similar hazards.
