Utah's $1.1B Green River Energy Center Now Powers the Grid with Solar and Storage
The Green River Energy Center in Utah has begun commercial operations, marking a major milestone for renewable energy in the region. Developed by rPlus Energies, the $1.1 billion project is the largest solar-plus-storage facility in PacifiCorp’s six-state service area. Construction of the centre involved 993,492 solar panels and 484 Tesla Megapacks. It combines 400 MW of solar power with a 400 MW/1,600 MWh battery storage system. The build process created hundreds of jobs, with many roles filled by local contractors.
The project aligns with Utah’s Operation Gigawatt initiative, which seeks to double energy production over the next ten years. Developers estimate it will generate over $55 million in property tax revenue to support schools and public services. In addition, partners have pledged $375,000 in scholarships for students pursuing careers in the energy sector. They also donated $45,000 to the Ferron Fire Department. The facility is now delivering electricity to the grid. Its scale and output are set to strengthen regional energy supply while contributing to local education and emergency services. The centre represents a significant investment in Utah’s renewable energy future.
