Luxury Timbers from Thuringia's Forests Auctioned - Thuringia's Timber Auction Smashes Records with Elite Hardwood Sales

Thuringia's annual timber auction has wrapped up with record-breaking sales. This year's event featured 900 logs from 18 premium hardwood species, drawing 31 buyers from across Europe. The auction highlighted the region's reputation for supplying top-quality wood, especially for high-end furniture.

A total of 1,355 cubic metres of hardwood went under the hammer. Oak made up the largest share, with 672 cubic metres available. The event also included rare and valuable pieces, such as two exceptional oak logs from the Meiningen state forest.

The two standout logs, each around one cubic metre, sold for €3,023 apiece. However, their true value became clear when converted to per-cubic-metre pricing: one reached €18,500, while the other hit €19,000. Both were purchased by Van der Heijden Houtimport B.V., a Dutch veneer manufacturer known for sourcing elite timber.

Thüringen Wertholzsubmission, as the auction is formally called, specialises in hardwoods tailored for the furniture industry. The high prices reflect the demand for wood with superior grain, durability, and aesthetic appeal.

The auction results confirm the strong market for Thuringia's premium hardwood. The record prices for the Meiningen oaks demonstrate the value placed on exceptional timber. Buyers, particularly in the furniture sector, continue to seek out these high-quality materials.
