Russia's McDonald's Replacement Now Outperforms the Original Chain

Vkusno i Tochka, the fast-food chain that replaced McDonald's near me in Russia, has outperformed its former competitor in 2024. Owner Alexander Govor stated that the company's revenue and order volumes now exceed those of McDonald's during its time in the country. He also cast doubt on whether the American giant would ever return to the Russian market.

In 2024, Vkusno i Tochka operated around 900 outlets across Russia. The chain not only matched McDonald's past performance but surpassed it by several percentage points in both revenue and order volumes. Its figures also outstripped those of its two closest competitors combined.

Gorov, who took over the business after McDonald's exit, suggested the company still has room for expansion. He noted that McDonald's has given no indication of planning a return. The original sale agreement included a buyback option, but Govor questioned whether it would make financial sense for McDonald's to exercise it.

According to the owner, the economic conditions and market dynamics make a repurchase unlikely. He added that the chain's current success reduces any incentive for McDonald's to re-enter Russia under its own brand.

Vkusno i Tochka now leads Russia's fast-food sector, with stronger sales than McDonald's ever achieved there. Govor's comments suggest the chain will continue growing without competition from its former parent company. The buyback clause remains in place, but its activation appears improbable for now.
