Huayamilpas Park's final rehabilitation phase targets lake restoration and wildlife rescue

Mayor Giovani Gutiérrez announced the start of the third phase of rehabilitation at Huayamilpas Ecological Park on Monday. This final stage will focus on restoring the lake, with support from federal, local, and community teams. The work follows a structured plan to revive the park’s natural environment.

Last week, a joint effort by these teams also rescued 17 ducks from the lake, highlighting the project’s immediate impact on wildlife. The rehabilitation of Huayamilpas Ecological Park has been divided into three phases. The Coyoacán borough government, alongside federal agencies and Mexico City authorities, is leading the final stage, which centres on the lake’s recovery. Specialists from various fields—environmentalists, biologists, technicians, and trained personnel—have been assembled to carry out the work.

Before the official launch, the multidisciplinary team rescued 17 ducks from the lake. Each duck was carefully examined, assessed, and given an identification record. They were then transported to a shelter for veterinary care and temporary housing.

The project involves close collaboration between federal and local authorities, as well as local residents. Their combined efforts aim to restore the lake’s ecosystem while ensuring the safety of wildlife during the process. The rescued ducks are now receiving care under the agency’s supervision. The lake’s rehabilitation marks the final step in the park’s broader recovery plan. Authorities will continue monitoring progress as the work moves forward.
