Zofingen Regio updates cycling strategy to boost key route connections
The Zofingen Regio regional planning association is updating its cycling strategy to improve access to key destinations. The revised plan focuses on better connections to schools, train stations, and leisure facilities by bike. However, local routes and recreational cycling paths will not be included in this update.
The revision follows Switzerland's new federal cycling infrastructure law. This law requires cantons and municipalities to finalise their network plans by 2027 and fully implement them by 2042. The Zofingen Regio association, representing 12 municipalities, has hired Kontextplan AG to lead the strategy update.
No major cycling projects or infrastructure changes have been recorded in the region over the past five years. The updated plan aims to strengthen regional cycling links rather than expand local or leisure routes.
The revised strategy will guide future cycling infrastructure in Zofingen Regio. It aligns with national requirements but excludes smaller, non-essential routes. Implementation will depend on further planning and funding decisions in the coming years.
