Yakutia's resource giants inject billions into roads, schools and homes

Major resource companies in Yakutia have pledged billions of rubles to support local infrastructure, education, and housing projects. These investments, spanning 2021 to 2026, aim to strengthen communities across the republic. The region's economy relies heavily on such firms, which contribute around 60% of its gross regional product and a significant portion of tax revenue.

ALROSA has been a key contributor, providing nearly 17.6 billion rubles in financial support to Yakutia's institutions between 2021 and 2025. Their funding has targeted various sectors, including education and social services.

In 2023, Prognoz-Serebro LLC committed to building a bridge over the Tompo River in the Tomponsky District. This project will improve transport links in the area. Meanwhile, YVGK JSC and Polymetal JSC joined forces to maintain a 577-kilometre section of the Kolyma–Nedzhadinskoye road, ensuring better connectivity for remote settlements.

Housing projects are also underway. Polus Aldan JSC is constructing three low-rise residential buildings in the Aldan District, adding 750 new housing units. Nordgold Management LLC secured funds for a one-story building in Tyanya village, which will house a school, kindergarten, and shooting range. TYUNGD JSC signed an agreement to build an educational facility for the Little Academy of Sciences in Chapaevo village.

Elgaugol LLC allocates 150 million rubles annually, splitting the funds equally between Neryungri District and the rest of the republic. YATEK PJSC plans to invest over 100 million rubles in 2025–2026 for social and infrastructure projects in Kysyl-Syr village, Vilyuysky District. Sakhaneftegaz LLC, however, has limited documented projects beyond a 2024 fiber-optic line connecting Lensk and Olekminsk.

These investments reflect the ongoing role of resource companies in developing Yakutia's infrastructure and public services. With billions directed toward roads, schools, housing, and digital connectivity, the projects aim to address key needs across the republic. The funding also highlights the economic dependence on industries that drive both regional growth and tax income.
