The Second Far Eastern Subsoil Use Forum took place in Yakutia last week. The event brought together industry leaders and officials to discuss mineral resource development in the region. Awards were also presented to recognise outstanding professionals in the field. During the forum, Oleg Kazakov, head of Rosnedra, highlighted Yakutia’s role as the centre of Russia’s mineral resource growth. His remarks came as the State Reserves Commission announced a significant update to gold reserves in the area.

A five-year reassessment of the Southern Cluster of the Kuranakh Ore Field confirmed an increase of 154 tons of gold. This includes 108 tons of balance reserves and 46 tons of off-balance reserves. The project used a combined processing method to refine the estimates. Polyus Aldan, which operates the deposits in Yakutia’s Aldan District, oversaw the reassessment. Two of its executives received official recognition at the forum. Dmitry Ivanov, head of Polyus Aldan, was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Yakutia Government. Maria Shakhurina, the company’s head of licensing and subsoil management, received an Honorary Diploma from Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources.

The forum concluded with ceremonial award presentations for key industry figures. The newly approved gold reserves will support further development in Yakutia’s mining sector. The region remains a focal point for Russia’s mineral resource expansion.
