Yakutia's Bold 2036 Plan: Tech, Tourism and Economic Reinvention

Yakutia has set ambitious goals in its Socioeconomic Development Strategy, targeting growth in technology, tourism and local production. By 2036, the region plans to lead in unmanned aerial systems, bioeconomics and artificial intelligence while shifting toward a non-resource, export-focused economy. The strategy unfolds in three stages. From 2018 to 2024, the focus is on establishing institutional frameworks. The next phase, between 2025 and 2031, will build essential infrastructure. The final stage, from 2032 to 2036, aims for sustainable development across key sectors.

One major target is to take at least five local tech companies public through initial public offerings (IPOs) by 2036. The region also wants to boost government procurement of Yakut-made products, reducing reliance on external suppliers.

Tourism is another priority. Authorities aim to double visitor numbers, reaching 726,000 annually by 2036. This push aligns with broader efforts to diversify the economy beyond traditional resource-based industries. If successful, the strategy will reshape Yakutia’s economic landscape. More tech firms could enter public markets, local production would expand, and tourism would grow significantly. The plan’s phased approach ensures steady progress toward these long-term objectives.
