Yakutia's Amga Highway shut down after dam failure triggers severe flooding

A major stretch of the Amga Highway in Yakutia’s Ust-Maysky District has been closed due to severe flooding. The restrictions took effect on May 28, cutting off a 202-kilometre section between Eldikan and Yugorenok. The closure followed a dam failure in the village of Ezhantsy on the evening of May 27. Rising water levels caused the breach, prompting immediate action from local authorities. Yakutia’s Road Management Directorate issued the order under Government Decree No. 120.

Emergency services and officials have warned residents about ongoing flood risks. The situation remains under constant monitoring, with response teams deployed to assess and manage the threat. The affected route, spanning from the 417th to the 619th kilometre markers, will stay shut until conditions improve. Authorities have not yet announced when the road might reopen.

The closure disrupts travel through a key regional route, forcing drivers to seek alternative paths. Emergency crews continue to track water levels and potential further damage. Updates on the road’s status will depend on weather developments and repair progress.
