Wolfenbüttel's Utility Secures Wind Power Deal to Boost Local Green Energy
Stadtwerke Wolfenbüttel has secured a new power supply deal to boost its regional energy offering. The agreement with Uniper will provide electricity from a six-turbine wind park in Lower Saxony. The move strengthens the utility's commitment to locally sourced, carbon-neutral power. Under the new pay-as-forecasted power purchase agreement (PPA), Stadtwerke Wolfenbüttel will receive the entire output from the wind park. This amounts to roughly 9 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity each year. The wind energy will cover about 15% of the company's customer demand.
The deal follows another recent agreement for the Kissenbrück solar park, set to deliver around 17 million kilowatt-hours of solar power annually from 2027. Both projects align with the utility's goal of supplying 100% regionally generated electricity. Vera Steiner, commercial managing director and spokesperson for Stadtwerke Wolfenbüttel, highlighted the partnership's benefits. She noted that it reinforces the company's role as a dependable energy provider while ensuring customers receive CO₂-neutral electricity.
The wind park agreement adds to Stadtwerke Wolfenbüttel's growing portfolio of local renewable projects. With wind and solar deals now in place, the utility continues to expand its regional energy supply. The new power sources will help meet demand while maintaining a focus on sustainability.
