Pötsch to stay VW top supervisor - Volkswagen backs Pötsch for another term as chairman ahead of AGM
Volkswagen's supervisory board has put forward Hans Dieter Pötsch for another term as its chairman. The nomination comes as the automotive giant prepares for its annual general meeting next month. Shareholders will now decide whether to extend his leadership.
Pötsch first joined Volkswagen in 2003 as chief financial officer. By 2015, he had risen to chairman of the supervisory board—a role he has held for over a decade. His tenure has included major challenges, from the 2015 Dieselgate scandal to the shift towards electric vehicles.
During his time at the helm, Pötsch also steered the company through the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing geopolitical tensions. Before leading Volkswagen, he served as chairman of Porsche AG in 2006 and later as head of Porsche Automobil Holding SE in 2010. His leadership has spanned critical moments, including the integration of Porsche into the Volkswagen Group. Now, Pötsch is seeking re-election to continue guiding the company through uncertain times. He has stated his aim is to ensure Volkswagen remains resilient against future crises. The final vote on his nomination will take place at the annual general meeting on June 18.
If re-elected, Pötsch will extend his long-standing role at Volkswagen's highest oversight level. His focus remains on strengthening the company's ability to handle economic and industry-wide challenges. The decision ultimately rests with shareholders at the upcoming meeting.
