Vladivostok's 'GorodOK' wellness complex faces demolition over permit violations
A long-running legal dispute over the 'GorodOK' water and wellness complex in Vladivostok has taken another turn. City officials confirmed the facility was constructed without proper permits and now faces possible demolition. The case, which involves land-use violations and safety concerns, is set to return to court next year.
The controversy began in 2014 when the Vladivostok administration terminated the entrepreneur’s lease for a 247-square-metre plot. Despite this, construction went ahead, and a two-storey complex was built on land three times larger than originally agreed. The facility has since operated without authorisation, hosting mass gatherings, including events for children.
In 2022, Rosreestr officially registered the entrepreneur as the building’s owner. Two years later, the city filed a lawsuit demanding demolition. Authorities have dismissed claims that the site is being targeted for residential redevelopment, insisting the case is purely about legal compliance. The property is currently under interim restrictions, preventing any sales or transfers. With the next hearing scheduled for May 7, 2026, the final decision on the complex’s future will rest with the court.
The administration has stressed that safety and adherence to land-use laws remain the priority. Until the court reaches a verdict, the 'GorodOK' complex will stay under legal constraints. The outcome will determine whether the facility faces demolition or must meet strict regulatory changes.
