Visa rolls out six AI-powered tools to slash payment disputes by 2026
Visa has unveiled six new and improved tools to tackle payment disputes more efficiently. The updates aim to cut down on confusion over valid charges while reducing cases of friendly fraud. These changes come as the company processed 106 million disputes worldwide in 2025—a 35% rise since 2019. One of the key additions is the Visa Dispute Resolution Network, designed to address potential disputes before they grow. A pilot version is already running, with full availability expected by late 2026. This network will help resolve conflicts earlier, saving time and costs for merchants and banks.
Visa is also expanding its AI-powered tools for issuers and acquirers. Dispute Intelligence and Dispute Doc Analyzer will streamline evidence review and decision-making. Another tool, the Visa Dispute Recovery Manager, automates the process of re-presenting disputed transactions using AI. Its pilot phase will expand in late 2026.
For merchants, Compelling Evidence 3.0 launches in April 2026. This update lets businesses share detailed evidence with banks when transactions seem suspicious. Additionally, Visa Dispute Case Manager, a new AI-driven platform, will centralise dispute workflows when it rolls out in North America in 2026.
The push for better dispute handling follows rising administrative costs and fraud losses across the payments industry. Visa's latest updates target these inefficiencies by speeding up resolutions and improving recovery rates for merchants. The new tools will help banks, merchants, and customers handle disputes more smoothly. With AI-driven automation and earlier intervention, Visa expects fewer escalations and faster resolutions. The full rollout of these features will continue through 2026.
