A video shared widely on social media claims to show police clashing with protesters in Uttam Nagar, Delhi, during March 2026. The footage, however, is from an unrelated incident in Rajasthan's Baran district the previous month. The false claim has caused confusion about two separate events involving police action and public unrest. The video was recorded on 9 February 2026 in Baran, Rajasthan. It captures police using lathi charges against activists from the Gau Raksha Dal, a cow protection group. The protesters had gathered outside the Pratap Chowk police outpost, demanding an independent inquiry into the death of a calf.
The incident in Delhi's Uttam Nagar occurred weeks later, during Holi celebrations on 4 March 2026. A dispute broke out, resulting in the death of a 26-year-old man named Tarun. Unlike the Rajasthan video, this case involved a personal conflict rather than a protest. Eid-ul-Fitr followed shortly after, observed on 20–21 March 2026. The timing of these festivals led to further confusion, as the false claim linked the Rajasthan video to Delhi's March unrest.
The video does not depict the Uttam Nagar incident but instead shows a separate protest in Baran. The Rajasthan clash involved cow protection activists, while the Delhi case stemmed from a Holi-related dispute. Fact-checkers have confirmed the footage's origins, clarifying the misinformation surrounding the two events.
