Flughafen Wien Aktiengesellschaft (VIAAY) has reported strong financial results for the first quarter of 2026. The company saw revenue rise by 6.1% and EBITDA grow by 8.2%, alongside a 5.3% increase in net profit. Despite ongoing challenges, the group remains confident in its outlook for the year. The company’s performance improved due to cost-saving measures and higher efficiency in early 2026. A key factor was the absence of a winter incentive, which had affected earnings in the same period last year. Non-aviation activities also contributed, with increased de-icing revenues boosting results.
Overall traffic across the group climbed by 5.3%, driven by strong growth in Malta and Košice. Vienna itself saw a 1.6% rise in passenger numbers, partly due to Air India’s refuelling stops. However, rising fuel costs and the ongoing Middle East conflict have introduced uncertainty for the coming months.
Despite these challenges, VIAAY has maintained its passenger and financial forecasts for 2026. The company acknowledged that higher fuel expenses could lead to adjustments in airline capacity and potentially push ticket prices up. The group’s first-quarter results reflect solid growth in both traffic and earnings. With cost controls and operational improvements in place, VIAAY has reaffirmed its targets for the year. Yet, external pressures such as fuel costs and geopolitical tensions may influence future performance.
