Veracruz approves new Tamiahua council and audits for emerging political groups
The General Council of Veracruz’s State Public Local Electoral Body (OPLE Veracruz) has completed the supplementary allocation of council seats in Tamiahua. The new city council will take office on June 1, 2026, and serve until December 31, 2029. Meanwhile, the council has also approved audit reports for two civil organisations seeking registration as a local political party. During the session, electoral councilors reviewed the financial records of the two groups. Gandhi Olmos García, an electoral councilor, clarified that the audits confirm whether funds come from legal sources, reach their intended destinations, and match reported activities. This process acts as a key democratic check, ensuring transparency and compliance with constitutional rules for organisations entering public life.
The council’s president, Marisol Alicia Delgadillo Morales, addressed concerns over a legal challenge to the election results. She stressed that legal certainty must be maintained despite the dispute. The newly formed city council will consist of three women and three men, balancing gender representation in local governance. The approved audit reports mark a step in verifying the financial integrity of organisations aiming to become political parties. The Tamiahua City Council’s upcoming term will begin in mid-2026, with members serving until the end of 2029. Legal oversight remains a priority to uphold fairness in the electoral process.
