Venustiano Carranza launches massive cleanup to prevent seasonal flooding

The Venustiano Carranza borough has launched a major cleanup operation to prevent flooding during the rainy season. Over 1,000 workers, including municipal staff, National Guard members, and Civil Protection teams, will take part in the effort. The initiative focuses on clearing drains and improving waste separation to protect residents' homes from water damage. The operation will deploy more than 150 urban service vehicles alongside 86 specialised units. These include hydro-pneumatic trucks, drain-clearing teams, and high-capacity extraction pumps. Their task is to remove blockages and ensure water flows freely through the drainage system.

Borough Mayor Evelyn Parra Álvarez stressed that the main priority is stopping floodwaters from entering homes. Officials have warned that 80% of local flooding stems from improper waste disposal, such as littering, uncollected pet waste, and grease poured into drains. Residents have been asked to support the effort by separating solid waste correctly and avoiding actions that clog drains. The operation will remain active throughout the rainy season to maintain drainage efficiency.

The cleanup campaign combines large-scale machinery with public cooperation to reduce flood risks. By targeting waste disposal habits and drain maintenance, authorities aim to minimise waterlogging in the borough. The initiative will continue as long as heavy rains pose a threat to the area.
