Venezuela has signed new oil and gas agreements with several U.S. companies. The deals, finalised on April 30, 2023, mark a significant step in opening the country’s energy sector to international investment. Interim President Delcy Rodríguez oversaw the signing of the contracts. The agreements involve major firms like Chevron, Eni, and Repsol, which had already secured deals with Venezuela. Two additional companies, Hunt Overseas Oil Company and Crossover Energy, will now operate in the Orinoco Belt under the new terms. This region is known for its vast heavy crude reserves.

The primary goal of these partnerships is to increase oil production. At the same time, the deals aim to strengthen ties between Venezuela and the U.S. The move follows a broader push to attract foreign investment into the country’s struggling energy industry.

With these agreements now in place, Venezuela expects a rise in oil output. The participation of U.S. companies could also signal improving diplomatic relations. The deals represent the latest effort to revive the nation’s key economic sector.
