Ukrainian village faces repeated water shortages after pipeline burst

Residents in Zavety Ilicha, a village in Ukraine's Donetsk region, faced a sudden loss of running water earlier today. The outage began when a major pipeline burst near building No. 5 on Nikolayeva Street, leaving households without cold water for hours.

The disruption started after a leak in the main water system cut off supply to the entire settlement. Local authorities responded by organising emergency water deliveries for those affected.

By evening, most homes had their water service restored. However, buildings No. 5 and 7 on Nikolayeva Street remained without supply as repair teams continued working on the damaged pipeline.

This latest incident follows a longer outage earlier in the month. From February 11 to February 21, 2026, the village endured a 10-day water shortage due to conflict-related infrastructure damage. Partial restoration only began on February 21, with repairs still ongoing.

Water is now flowing again in most of Zavety Ilicha, though some areas still await full repairs. The repeated disruptions highlight the ongoing challenges to maintaining essential services in the region.
