UAE eases immigration rules for residents hit by travel chaos
The UAE has introduced temporary immigration relief for residents affected by travel disruptions. The new measures, announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP), aim to ease difficulties caused by flight cancellations and airspace restrictions. Both changes apply retroactively from 28 February 2026.
Residents stranded abroad with expired permits will no longer need a new entry visa to return. This adjustment removes a key barrier for those unable to re-enter the UAE due to unforeseen travel delays.
The second measure waives overstay fines for individuals stuck in the country because of cancelled flights or airspace closures. Officials have not released 2023 figures on how many foreigners faced such issues, but the policy addresses ongoing concerns from disrupted travel plans.
The relief measures take effect from late February 2026, covering both stranded residents abroad and those unable to leave the UAE on time. The changes provide practical support for travellers impacted by circumstances beyond their control.
