Two men have been charged after flying around 250 drones without permission in Mumbai’s Bandra West. The incident took place during a marketing event at Wing Sports Club on May 28. Police confirmed the drones were operated illegally within city limits.
The drones were flown at about 9.20pm at the sports club ground on KC Marg, Nityanand Nagar. Boldsun Marketing Private Limited, the company behind the campaign, used the drones for promotional purposes. Each device was valued at roughly Rs80,000.
Sunil Gupta, responsible for securing permissions, failed to obtain the necessary approvals. Mumbai’s rules require prior clearance for drone operations within the Police Commissionerate’s jurisdiction. Bandra police subsequently registered a case against Gupta and Gopal Singh, the company’s 45-year-old manager. The two were booked under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities took action after confirming the drones had been flown without authorisation.
The case highlights strict enforcement of drone regulations in Mumbai. Both accused now face legal proceedings for violating flight permissions. Each drone involved in the event was worth approximately Rs80,000.
