TTDI's road upgrades curb illegal parking and boost pedestrian safety
Road changes in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) have been completed to tackle illegal parking and improve safety for pedestrians. The project followed months of planning and discussions with local residents. Concerns were raised about emergency vehicle access, leading to adjustments in the final design.
The first phase of work introduced a raised pedestrian crossing on Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad. A new staircase with a wheelchair ramp was also installed, along with a signalised crossing. These changes aimed to slow down traffic and make the area safer for those on foot.
Before the upgrades, the road had no zebra crossing, and parked cars often blocked the pavement. The second phase added kerb extensions on both sides of the street. These prevent illegal parking while giving pedestrians more space.
The design includes flexible poles that bend when vehicles pass, along with concrete kerbs to protect the structures. Residents had worried that the changes might obstruct fire trucks and rescue vehicles. In response, the kerb width was reduced to ensure large emergency vehicles could still pass safely.
Planning for the alterations began in April 2025, with input from the TTDI Residents' Association. Their feedback helped shape the final layout, balancing safety improvements with emergency access needs.
The road modifications are now in place, aiming to discourage speeding and illegal parking. Flexible poles and adjusted kerbs allow emergency vehicles to move through the area. The project reflects collaboration between authorities and residents to address local concerns.
