TSA Launches TSA Gold+ to Revolutionize Airport Security Screening
The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has introduced a new airport security programme called TSA Gold+. Designed to speed up passenger screening, the initiative allows airports to work with private contractors while keeping federal security standards in place. The move aims to modernise aviation security and encourage faster adoption of new technology. TSA Gold+ builds on the existing Screening Partnership Program, which currently involves only 20 airports using private contractors for screening. Under the new scheme, airport operators can voluntarily opt in for tailored screening services. This could significantly expand the role of private companies in security checks.
Unlike programmes such as TSA PreCheck or CLEAR, TSA Gold+ focuses on improving overall checkpoint efficiency. The TSA will still oversee all security requirements, ensuring compliance with federal rules. The goal is to reduce wait times for travellers without compromising safety. Airports choosing to join will have more flexibility in how they manage screening operations. The initiative also aims to help them adopt advanced technology more quickly, keeping pace with growing passenger numbers and evolving threats.
TSA Gold+ offers airports a new way to streamline security processes through public-private partnerships. The programme remains optional, but those that participate will work under strict federal oversight. If successful, it could change how security screening operates across US airports in the coming years.
